The number that defined the race was the margin. Remco Evenepoel rode three weeks at the outer edge of his ability and still finished 6 minutes 26 seconds behind. That is not a gap you close with better luck. Pogačar won this Tour the way the greats won theirs, everywhere: in the Barcelona team time trial, in the Pyrenees, in the Alps, and twice up Alpe d'Huez in the final weekend.

Third, at 9 minutes 42 seconds, was Isaac del Toro, on debut, in the white jersey. A first Tour, a podium and the best young rider classification in the same July is the kind of ride careers get built on.

The finish line you just watched has seats

The Champs-Élysées grandstand you saw on the broadcast is bookable for 2027. The 2027 Tour starts in Edinburgh on Friday 2 July, the first Scottish start in the history of the race, and the finish is expected back in Paris, though ASO has not yet confirmed it.
