Why this stage matters
Willunga Hill is the climb this race is remembered for. In 2027 the peloton gets there a different way.
Riders leave Christies Beach heading east to Coxs Hill, climbed for the first time in the race's history. The route then runs anticlockwise through Aldinga, Port Willunga and Snapper Point, and turns inland through the vineyards to reach Willunga Hill from the back.
Each peloton climbs Willunga twice, with a descent of Penny's Hill Road in between. The second time up is for the stage, with the overall on the line and only Sunday left to race.
Expect the men at the finish around 1:32pm and the women around 3:36pm.
Watching Stage 5
Willunga Hill gives you each race twice, four ascents across one afternoon. The crowds on the climb build early, so arrive with time to spare.
On the Mummu Tour Down Under journey, Saturday is Willunga. Riders head for the hill from the hotel in the morning and non riders go down in the van. Lunch is at Our Place at Willunga, the race's own DeTours experience, then the group watches both races on the climb and drives back with the bikes on the truck.
