After three stages in Britain, the Tour crosses the Channel and takes its first rest day in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin on Monday 5 July. On Tuesday it starts its French campaign from the same harbour town.
Stage 4 is a 171 km loop that hugs the Cotentin coast, first west of Cherbourg, then east. It has been a long time since a Tour stage spent this many kilometres beside the sea, and the wind off the Channel will have its say.
The sting is at the end. The Côte du Becquet, with double digit gradients, comes just before the final 10 km, then the road climbs again to an uphill finish. Cherbourg hosts the Tour for the 19th time, and in 2016 Peter Sagan won here to pull on his first yellow jersey.
On Tuesday 6 July you can start this stage in the VIP Departure Village in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin or finish it in the Izoard finish line marquee at the top of the uphill finish. Next is Stage 5, Pontorson to Plumelec. See every stage of the 2027 Tour de France, and every ticket on Tour de France tickets.
