Why This Stage Matters
Every rider goes off alone and the climb to the finish does the sorting. It is the first time the overall contenders are timed against each other with no team to hide behind, and the gaps here shape how the rest of the race is ridden.
The Route
Stage 7 runs 19.6 km from Sulmona to a summit finish at Campo di Giove with 700 metres of climbing, on Friday 14 May. The organiser rates it four out of five for difficulty.
