We are incredibly excited to share that our 2024 Cobbled Classics tour just got a whole lot more epic with the legend of all legends, Eddy Merckx confirmed to join us on tour for an exclusive meet and greet.
When it comes to cycling greats, Eddy is right up there as number one having won a formidable number of races during his highly decorated 14-year career.
The Belgian superstar turned professional at the tender age of 20 and from that moment he was quite literally unstoppable, quickly charging to dominance the following year securing his first monument title at Milan – San Remo. His string of success throughout his career is nothing shy of mind blowing, going on to secure a formidable 525 professional wins along the way. Eleven Grand Tours, three World Championship titles and all five monuments, at least twice…and the list goes on and on.
He was as great as they come and his competitors worst nightmare, leaving little opportunity for others with very few rivals in the peloton that could match his strength. So much so, he was suitably nicknamed ‘The Cannibal’ due to his fierce desire to win and his riding style that was at all times ‘all in’ performing as hard as he possibly could. A great not only for his exceptional number of victories and ability to win, but his all-round strength in just about every side of the sport. He was the best climber, the best time trialist and the best sprinter there was. Something so rarely seen in cycling.
