Why This Stage Matters

After two mountain hits, Stage 7 is the reset—and the sprinters’ teams treat it like a do-or-die chance to steady their campaign. Anyone who spent too much in the Pyrenees now has to help chase at 60 km/h, so weak squads get exposed on supposedly “easy” terrain.

Stage Highlights

  • Start in Hagetmau, first-ever Tour stage from the town.
  • Flat day heading north across the Landes towards Bordeaux
  • Côte de Béguey, 1.6 km at ~4.2–4.3%
  • Classic sprint stage

The Route

175 km across Landes farmland into Bordeaux with about 2,053 m of elevation gain. It’s mostly flat but never perfectly straight: long straights broken by roundabouts and tree lines that funnel wind. Speed stays high because every sprint team wants control headed into the city.

Stuey's Thoughts

Back-to-back mountain days are where form gets exposed.

The danger isn’t the headline climb on its own—it’s arriving there already empty after yesterday. On a steady, grinding ascent, you can’t fake it with one big kick; you either have the engine or you don’t. Teams will try to turn it into a tempo test to isolate leaders and force mistakes. If your legs aren’t there, the gaps you give away become the gaps you carry for the rest of the Tour.

Practical Information

The approach into Bordeaux closes early and stays shut until hours after the finish. If you want the finale, plan rail or tram in and out. Heat builds over the plains, so shade and hydration matter, and traffic on the A65/A62 backs up once the caravan rolls.
