Day 2
Ride the Cobbles
This morning we welcome our tour host, 2007 Paris-Roubaix winner and 17 time Tour de France finisher, Stuart O’Grady who will lead us on a ride around the famous cobbled sectors of Northern France, most of which will be part of tomorrow’s epic Stage 9. Stuart was the innagural team captain for GreenEDGE Cycling and will offer great insight into the importance of the cobbled for team Mitchelton-SCOTT.
Stuart expertly navigated the roads we will ride today in 2007 to be the first Australian in history to hold aloft the famous Roubaix cobblestone trophy. The day was not without drama however with Stuey puncturing in the d’Arenberg Forest and even snapping his crank in the beginning of the race. But his solo effort in the final sectors and into the velodrome was one for the ages and you can revisit this history by his side today.
Stuey will take us into the Roubaix showers and we may even bump into some his old mates around the region along the way.
Following our incredible day we will head to team Mitchelton-SCOTT’s team hotel to meet the rider’s have a beer with with directors and tour the team bus and bikes.
Today’s ride: 60-70km of famous Classics roads including over 5km of cobbles sectors.
